Magnetic Effects of Electric Current /

Bilingual Questions & Answers (Exam-Ready)

Important Questions and Answers

🔹 Q1. What is a magnetic field? (2 marks)

The region around a magnet or a current-carrying conductor where magnetic force is experienced is called a magnetic field.

🔹 Q2. What are magnetic field lines? State one property. (2 marks)

Magnetic field lines are imaginary lines that represent the direction of magnetic field.
Property: They never intersect each other.

🔹 Q3. State Right Hand Thumb Rule. (2 marks)

If the thumb of the right hand points in the direction of current, the curled fingers show the direction of magnetic field lines.

🔹 Q4. What is a solenoid? (2 marks)

A solenoid is a long cylindrical coil of many turns of insulated copper wire.

🔹 Q5. Why does a compass needle get deflected near a current-carrying conductor? (2 marks)

Because a current-carrying conductor produces a magnetic field around it.

🔹 Q6. State Fleming’s Left Hand Rule. (3 marks)

If the forefinger, thumb and middle finger of the left hand are stretched mutually perpendicular, then forefinger shows magnetic field, middle finger shows current and thumb shows direction of force.

🔹 Q7. Explain the principle of electric motor. (3 marks)

An electric motor works on the principle that a current-carrying conductor placed in a magnetic field experiences a force.

🔹 Q8. What is electromagnetic induction? (3 marks)

The phenomenon of production of electric current in a conductor due to change in magnetic field is called electromagnetic induction.

🔹 Q9. State Fleming’s Right Hand Rule. (3 marks)

If the thumb, forefinger and middle finger of the right hand are mutually perpendicular, the thumb shows motion of conductor, forefinger shows magnetic field and middle finger shows induced current.

🔹 Q10. What is an electric fuse? (3 marks)

An electric fuse is a safety device that breaks the circuit when excessive current flows.

🔹 Q11. Describe the construction and working of an electric motor. (5 marks)

An electric motor consists of a coil placed between magnetic poles, a split ring commutator and a battery. When current flows, the coil rotates due to magnetic force.

🔹 Q12. Describe the principle and working of an AC electric generator. (5 marks)

An AC generator works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When a coil rotates in a magnetic field, alternating current is produced.
